Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five

That’s because this entry is short and sweet.  This summer has turned out to be incredibly busy, and it’s a shame because I’d love to write more.  I’d also like to work out more creative things than just journal entries.  Perhaps bits of stories, scripts, columns, whatever could go here–but I just haven’t had time to write them.

For one, I don’t have as much Internet access anymore.  It’s usually just at work that I get on and the occasional coffee shop or friend’s house.  But that’s extremely rare since I’m working and in Oklahoma!.  It seems like it’s been ages since I went through the audition process, and now we’re in the final stages of being in a show.  It’s going to be freaking weird to be on a break for a month, but then it starts all over again.  I wouldn’t trade it for anything else though.

I suppose I should head home, sort laundry, grab a sandwich, and jet off to the dress rehearsal.  Although Jameson and I were going to try and get some HALO.  The Flood zombie aliens are really tricky (and frankly, a little scary)….  I love summer though.

Tonight is a big show for Phantom and the rest of the drum corps world.  I’m a little wary, but I also realize that a lot can happen between now and Pasadena.  Still, I can’t help but wonder how the numbers will stack.

This is from Tim O’Brien’s “The Things They Carried,” which is another one of my favorite books (definitely in the top 5, but I’m not sure I can quite rank them).

Now I’m chilling at Eric’s house; we just finished watching “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”  The movies are getting better as the books get better.  Next week is when the Order of Phoenix comes out and then the 7th book.  It’s all coming to a close, and I’m mentally preparing or something.

So it’s the 4th of July!  I’m getting ready for a barbeque this afternoon, which should be a blast.  It’s pretty hot out today, but it’s nice for all the festivities.  I really would like to go swimming, but I’m not sure that’s in the mix of things.  Ah well.

Oklahoma! is gearing up.  We open next Friday and the cast is in good shape, I think.  I’m trying to get used to the cowboy boots though.  That’s quite a project, let me tell you.

Well, I thought this would be a little more interesting reading, but I’m not in the mood, and it’s the 4th of July.  I feel a little ashamed for even getting on the computer today, but it’s my communication hub.

The tree was not only stripped by the cold season, it seemed weary from age, enfeebled, dry. I was thankful, very thankful that I had seen it. So the more things remain the same, the more they change afterall…Changed, I headed back through the mud. I was drenched; anybody could see it was time to come in out of the rain.

The quote is from John Knowle’s “A Separate Peace,” which is quite possibly one of my favorite books of all time. I intend to use quotes from literature for the titles.  It’s completely random.

I feel like the first posts of these things are always stupid. There’s never a sense of what this blog has been like, so you have nothing to judge (unless you’ve read anything like this of mine before).

So I got sick of xanga. I think it has to do with fewer and fewer people writing in them, and me finding more blogs and things outside of the xanga world. With WordPress, I’m able to do a little more customization, and that’s appealing. Then I can have a nice change of pace and keep things pretty consolidated.

So that’s that.

This weekend is all about recharging. It’s not that I’m feeling burnt out, but I suppose that the Twin Cities and all that jazz is taking a bit of a toll on me. Luckily, I’m relaxing at my voice teacher’s house. I’m house-sitting, and it’s been lovely. There are 900 CDs at my disposal, and some very intriguing books. I always end up saying that I want to do more reading than what actually happens. Perhaps this will be my hideaway for the next three weeks. It’s not too shabby, that’s for sure.

Yesterday was a long day at work, but I was treated to lunch at WA Frost in St. Paul. The AR department along with our VP said goodbye to Reena there while we ate on the patio outside. I had an excellent beef sandwhich with a chicken curry soup. I loved it. Speaking of food, I saw Ratatouille with a bunch of friends last night. It was really fun, and I was impressed with how much managed to cram in that film. I felt it was rather dense when you think of the plot and more thematic elements. It’s much more mature than I was expecting, but it was a welcome change. Pixar is genius. I hate rats though. There were a few scenes of the hundreds of scurrying rats and I must admit that things became a little squeamish for me. Good movie though.
